In Action: Direct Drilling Into Maize Stubble

This video shows a Moore Unidrill direct drill sowing straight into maize stubble in New Zealand, coping with a large amount of leaf debris left on the ground.

Residue is one of the toughest tests for any direct drill, especially when the soil is a little damp. In this video, the Unidrill is working into long stubble and high volumes of residue, and handling it without issue.

Residue creates two problems for a direct drill: it can hairpin into the slot instead of being cut cleanly, and it can drag moisture and stubble down with the coulter rather than letting seed reach firm, undisturbed soil. The System Moore coulter is designed to cut through residue rather than push it aside, which is what allows the drill to keep working cleanly even in the high-residue, damp conditions shown in this video.
